Thanksgiving

This year we decided to try and smoke our own turkey. We bought one from the store a few years ago and loved it. My sister-in-law usually does one and we help to get a turkey. Well things did not work out and so we ventured doing it on our own. It was great. It did not take as long as we thought it would. My daughter was involved and she loved helping. I took care of the turkey while my wife did the rest with our help.

We had her parents over and they really enjoyed themselves. We sent them home with half of the food and we still had left overs for a week. It was an excellent turkey and are going to be doing it again next year. It was lots of fun.

Keeping the smoker fed with charcoal.

I almost made it take longer, which made my wife sweat a little. I could not keep the heat up. Stupid design of the smoker. We put our heads together and with the help of my mother-in-law, we really got it going. I put a heat spot on the fence and melted the paint off of the smoker. But it turned out great. What can I say, it was out first time and we learned by trial and error. I usually get it by error.

It was a great family affair with all of us involved. We had a great time doing this.

I love the Holidays, it is a fun and exciting time of year. It is great to be with family and to make it magical when you have kids. My daughter loved it. She still talks about it.
